Burglary suspect shoots himself in the hand during the theft of handguns

Laurel Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards along with Major Chuck Johnson, Detective Bryon Lawson, and Detective Kyle Gray arrested 20 year old Austin Andrew Trayner of Corbin on Wednesday afternoon October 9, 2019 at approximately 3:03 PM.


The arrest occurred off KY 1223 approximately 11 miles South of London after Trayner was charged with burglary – first-degree; theft by unlawful taking – firearm; theft by unlawful taking under $500.


The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Laurel County Sheriff's office where it was determined through investigation that Trayner had allegedly entered a business in southern Laurel county without permission to do so and took handguns.


In the process Traynor accidentally shot himself in the left hand and also took a Black and Decker drill from the business to his residence. Two firearms have been recovered. Traynor was treated at Corbin and UK for a gunshot wound and is now lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
