From The Tazewell Police Department -
On Tuesday, July 23, 2019 Tazewell Police Department Officer Andrew Sturgill and Chief Myers along with Tazewell-New Tazewell Fire Department were dispatched to an active electrical fire at the Claiborne County Board of Education at 9:00a.m.
Upon arrival the police department equipped with fire extinguishers assisted school board employees with evacuation of the building and attempted to suppress the fire until the fire department could arrive. The fire was contained and the building ventilated by the fire department. Powell Valley Electric also responded quickly and were able to disconnect power to the building.
Thanks to quick action on behalf of the school board employees, police department, fire department and the electric company further damage was prevented and no injuries were reported. Safety plans are always instrumental in any emergency.
