Claiborne County Mayor Brooks not extending mask mandate

Claiborne County Mayor Joe Brooks announced on Wednesday, March 17th that he will not be extending the county-wide mask mandate.

According to Brooks, the mandate implemented in November will expire on March 31 at 11:59 p.m.

Governor Bill Lee updated an executive order through April 28, giving county mayors the authority to issue local mask requirements.

“County mayors in the 89 counties that do not have a locally run county health department shall have the authority to issue orders or measures requiring or recommending the wearing of face coverings within their jurisdictions,” said Gov. Lee.
