The U.S. Marshals Service for the Eastern District of Tennessee announced a fugitive Colorado sex offender had been captured in Morristown.

According to a release, Pete Custer, 65, was number eight on Colorado's Top 100 Sex Offender Fugitive List. He had been on the run since February 2017, the U.S. Marshals said.

The U.S. Marshals Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Custer on Thursday morning at around 10 a.m. at a Morristown grocery store.

The release states that, in 1991, Custer was convicted in Los Angeles of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14. He was in and out of prison for a number of years in California and later fled to Colorado where he was arrested and imprisoned on additional charges, the release said.

When he was released, Custer fled his term of parole and was on the run again until his arrest in Tennessee.

Custer faces state sex offender registry charges in Tennessee, in addition to charges he already had in Colorado and California.
