Drug treatment clinic variance public hearing in Middlesboro

From WRIL -

The city of Middlesboro will hold a public hearing at 3pm Wednesday afternoon June 8, 2022, in City Hall council chambers in regard to a request for a variance of a distance requirement for an outpatient drug treatment facility.

That facility is Groups Recover Together. Their website states that they are a Suboxone clinic. The area the clinic is wanting to move into is a space within the Village Square Shopping Center just off of Highway 25E.

Currently the city has a distance restriction, zoned B-2, that a clinic of this nature cannot be within 1,000 feet of a state-licensed medical facility, which it would be given that the nearest medical office is 600 feet away.

According to their website, Groups Recover Together has over 70 offices across 12 states with the nearest in Morristown, Tennessee.

The public will have the ability to comment during this meeting. While 50 seats will be available, if more people show up the meeting will be moved to the Community Center on 30th street.

Side note: On Thursday the 9th the city council will have a special called meeting for the first reading of the 2022-2023 budget.
