Gray Kentucky man wanted for murder has been taken into custody

UPDATE: KSP Trooper Shane Jacobs states that at 3:15 p.m. KSP apprehended Brian Scott Smith placing him into custody. Detectives with KSP were able to make contact with Smith by phone and agree on him turning himself in. He was arrested on Ky 830 on the Knox/Laurel line, just inside Laurel County.


Smith is lodged in the Knox County Detention Center charged with murder - 1st degree and multiple motor vehicle violations. he is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.

ORIGINAL STORY: At approximately 4:30 am The Knox County Sheriff's Department and Kentucky State Police responded to a shooting at a Dr. Parker Lane residence in the Gray community of 42-year-old Shelby McIntyre.


During an altercation, the shooter - identified as 40-year-old Brian Smith of Gray - brandished and discharged a firearm resulting in McIntyre's death. Smith then fled the scene in a blue-colored Ford vehicle.


PAO Trooper Shane Jacobs reports that Smith was last known to be driving the Ford hatchback with possible rear-end damage. He is described as 5' 11", 150lbs, with brown hair and multiple tattoos.

Smith is to be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If you have seen Brian Smith, call 911 immediately.


The victim was declared deceased by the Knox County Coroner and her identity is being withheld until notification of next of kin.


Detective Aaron Frederick of the Kentucky State Police is in charge of this investigation.


All those reported by WRIL as being arrested and charged are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
