Harlan County Deputies make drug arrests after vehicle pursuit

From The Harlan County Sheriff's Department -

On Monday March 20th, Deputies Mark Saylor and Bryan Napier were performing stationary patrol near Martins Fork Lake in Smith when they attempted to execute a traffic stop. The vehicle at first slowed down then it accelerated traveling toward Cawood.

The vehicle eventually attempted to evade deputies by traveling off road onto an old strip job road. Deputies observed occupants of the vehicle tossing items out of the windows of the vehicle as they traveled up the mountain. Eventually the vehicle came to a stop with two occupants fleeing on foot. 2 other occupants were apprehended before they could flee.

Due to the amount of suspected methamphetamine recovered, both subjects were charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree (methamphetamine).

Travis Skidmore was arrested by Deputy Mark Saylor and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree (methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia buy/possess, and Failure of owner to maintain required insurance.

Carla Jones was arrested by Deputy Bryan Napier and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree (methamphetamine) and Drug Paraphernalia buy/possess.

This case remains under investigation with more arrests pending. Deputies were assisted by the Kentucky State Police.
