As we reported earlier, there was a fatal accident in int eh Cranks community of Harlan County on Highway 421 early Thursday morning a short time before 6 am.
Kentucky State Police report that their preliminary investigation determined 49-year-old James Powell of North Carolina was operating a Mack eighteen-wheeler North on Hwy 421.
37-year-old Christopher Hall was operating a Hyundai Sonata South on Hwy 421. Hall’s vehicle then crossed the center line striking the eighteen-wheeler head on. Chris Hall was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Highway 421 was shut down for several hours as the reconstruction took place.
Kentucky State Police is continuing the investigation. Also assisting at the scene were Harlan Police Department and Sunshine Fire Dept.
