Jacksboro, Tn police say 2 year struck by a car has died

A 2-year-old child struck by a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot earlier this afternoon has died, according to Jacksboro Police Chief Jeremy Goins. Goins said that officers were called to the scene at approximately 1:55 p.m.


The child was transported to Tennova LaFollette Medical Center by ambulance to be stabilized for transport by helicopter but was diverted back to LMC en route to the helicopter landing zone.

"This is an absolutely tragic event, and we pray for peace for all parties involved, and I really hope that the community gives both parties involved the privacy and time to grieve during this tragic event," Goins said.

Goins said he and investigators reviewed video at the scene and that the investigation remains open at this time. "At this time, we feel like it is a tragic accident," Goins said.

He said the district attorney's office has been contacted and will review the evidence in the case.

"It is protocol for us to contact the district attorney when there i a death investigation, and we’ll share all evidence and reports that we prepare with them," Goins said.

"I hope everyone keeps the first responders in their thoughts and prayers also. It impacts their lives a lot during this tragic event."
