A short time before 6:30pm Saturday night January 18, 2020 there was a vehicle pursuit involving KSP on Highway 119 which ended in the vicinity of Tanyard Hill.
KSP Sgt. Farley tells WRIL that state police observed an individual, now identified as 36 year old Christopher Maiden of Dayhoit, speeding in the Harlan County area and when they initiated a traffic stop he attempted to flee from troopers.
The chase ended a short time later in Bell County Kentucky near Tanyard Hill when spike strips were deployed and the vehicle Maiden was driving was disabled. Maiden was found to have several outstanding warrants and the vehicle he was driving was determined to be stolen.
He was arrested and later lodged in the Bell County Detention Center at 8:26pm charged with reckless driving, wanton endangerment - 1st degree - police officer, receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, fleeing or evading police - 2nd degree (motor vehicle), no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card, failure to wear seatbelts, registration and title requirements - vehicle not to operate on a highway, permitting operation of motor vehicle with improper registration. He was also served three outstanding warrants that have no bond.
