Middlesboro man arrested after 911 caller says he was swinging a sword and set a fire in her home

From The Bell County Sheriff's Department -

Jonathan Rains - BCDC

On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Deputy Frank Foster responded to an out of control individual swinging a sword inside a residence on Dunlap Hollow Road.

Once on scene, Deputy Foster made contact with the female caller at a next door neighbor’s home who stated that 23-year-old Jonathan Rains of Middlesboro had busted her bathroom door, was stabbing the walls with a knife and was armed with a sword.

Deputy Foster then went to the home, knocked on the door and Rains came out visibly upset at the deputy’s presence. Rains became irate and was detained while the deputy investigated the incident.

The woman then showed Deputy Foster the damage in the residence done by Rains. She pointed out that prior to the deputy’s arrival, Rains had set a fire inside the bathroom and the bathtub. The bathroom door was also kicked off it’s hinges and a knife was found sticking out of a wall in the bedroom of the woman’s daughter.

The victim told the deputy that she was scared for her life when rains was swinging the sword and afraid he was going to burn her house down when he set the fire.

Jonathan Rains was then advised he was under arrest and taken to the Bell County Detention Center charged with arson – 1st degree, criminal mischief -1st degree, menacing, and he was served a bench warrant.

He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
