Middlesboro man identified after being struck and killed by a steel beam during property clean up

We are following a report of a fatality during the demolition of a structure in the vicinity of 10th street. One person is deceased after part of the structure fell on him.


Bell County Deputy Coroner Don Horton responded to the location and tells WRIL that he pronounced 74-year-old Larry Lewis deceased at 5:58pm on Tuesday July 5, 2022.


This was after Lewis and another man were cleaning up a property with a bulldozer. A chain was connected to the dozer and the other end to a steel I-beam to pull it down. Lewis was in the path of the beam and it struck him causing multiple blunt force injuries, which lead to his death.


Also responding is the Middlesboro Fire/EMS and Middlesboro Police.
