Middlesboro woman charged with arson and wanton endangerment - firefighter injured during incident

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Middlesboro Police Officer Caleb Ayers served a warrant on a Middlesboro woman for arson in regard to an Edgewood Road structure fire late Sunday night, May 23, 2021.


The complaint warrant, taken out by Officer Jake Partin, charges 28-year-old Chelsie Kuhns with arson for "intentionally and wantonly starting a fire in a house owned by Larry Thacker".


The fire resulted in Middlesboro Firefighter Jeromy Killion being injured while fighting the blaze. Killion contacted WRIL and told us he is now home after being treated at Middlesboro ARH and in Lexington for minor injuries.


Kuhns was spotted at a local gas station by Officer Ayers and taken into custody. She was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with arson - 3rd degree, wanton endangerment - 1st degree, and criminal trespass. She was also served with three outstanding warrants.


No bond has been set as of this report.
