Pineville USPS driver involved in accident leading to the death of a Knoxville woman in Union County

THP Knoxville Public Information Officer Lt. Stacey Heatherly reports to WRIL that Monday afternoon August 10, 2020 just after 4:15pm there was a fatal accident involving two vehicles in Union County on Highway 33.

Lt. Heatherly states that THP Trooper R Powers responded to the scene. Trooper Powers’ preliminary report states that a USPS Hino box truck driven by 54-year-old William Woodward of Pineville was traveling southbound on state route 33 when the truck went off the left shoulder after crossing the northbound lane and struck a barrier.

Woodward then crossed back over to the southbound side, coming in contact with a 2007 GMC Sienna driven by 49-year-old Robert Muntz of Sharps Chapel, Tennessee traveling northbound. Muntz then struck a barrier wall. Both vehicles came to uncontrolled final rest on south side of roadway.

William Woodward was not injured in the accident, but Robert Muntz was hurt during impact. A passenger in the GMC Sienna, 48-year-old Marie Muntz of Knoxville, died in the accident as she succumbed to severe injuries.

While the usage of alcohol or drugs is not indicated in the report, both drivers were tested. The report states that charges may be pending.

Union County Sheriff’s Department and emergency service personnel also responded to the scene.
