On Wednesday May 1, 2019 at 2:40 a.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of a shooting at 1427 Highway 219 in the Wallins community of Harlan County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that 26 year old Tommy Shackleford of Wallins was inside of a residence with Erica Edens when 35 year old Brian Owens made entry into the residence.

Brian and Tommy engaged in a brief altercation before Tommy pulled a firearm and shot Brian in the midsection. After being shot, Mr. Owens drove himself from the residence and was stopped by Tpr. Joey Brigmon on U.S. 119 in the Tremont of Harlan County.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Owens was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee for further treatment. No arrests have been made at this time. The case will be presented to a Harlan County Grand Jury.

The case is being investigated by Kentucky State Police Detective Jim T Whitaker.
