Shooting investigation underway in London, one man charged

From The London Ky Police Department -

On Thursday, January 18, 2024, at approximately 7:52 P.M., officers from the London Police Department received a call that 25-year-old Cody Deaton of London, KY. had been shot at Betty Jane Apartments and been brought to St. Joseph Hospital. Deaton was later released from the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening wounds.

Officers arrived on scene and received information that the shooter, 20-year-old Brian Goforth also of London, KY. had fled behind the residence. Officers located Goforth’s tracks and began tracking him through the snow, when another call was received through the London-Laurel Dispatch Center, that a male on Mullins Avenue was attempting to break into a car.

Officers were then able to pick up the tracks again and followed them behind residences, businesses and through the woods leading to Wendy’s on S. Laurel Road. There, officers were able to locate Goforth and take him into custody without further incident.

Detectives completed and executed a search warrant on the residence where the incident occurred and were able to locate what was believed to be illegal narcotics, stolen items (including a firearm), and other drug-related items.

Brian Goforth was placed under arrest and charged with Assault 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm), Receiving Stolen Property, Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The investigation is ongoing. The London Police Department was assisted on scene by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
