Texting while not wearing a seat belt leads to drug arrest

Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Jake Miller arrested 47 year old Marcus S. Woods of London on Monday morning August 10, 2020 at approximately 10:47am on KY 192 in London after he was seen driving on East 4th St. in a white Cadillac Escalade texting while driving and not wearing a seat belt.


A traffic stop was conducted where it was learned that Woods was operating on a suspended operator's license, determined to be under the influence, and was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine, scales, a syringe, and suspected marijuana.

Deputy Miller located a handgun in the vehicle and learned that Woods was a convicted felon.


Marcus Woods was charged with driving a motor vehicle using a handheld mobile telephone; failure to wear seat belts; operating a motor vehicle under the influence - first offense; operating on suspended or revoked operator's license; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; possession of marijuana. He was lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
