The Kentucky Supreme Court has ordered almost all courtrooms to remain closed through May 31.
This is an extension of the highest court's previously amended order, which would have seen courts reopening on April 24.
The move is meant to "protect the health and safety of court employees, elected officials, and the general public," Chief Justice John Minton wrote.
The order prohibits all but emergency proceedings. It postpones all criminal and civil dockets except for domestic violence hearings, emergency custody hearings and bond and probation hearings for defendants who are in custody.
Through the order, no more than 10 people may be in the courtroom at any time "unless the judge in his or her discretion deems it necessary and enforces appropriate distances between individuals."
