Traffic stop for speeding nets two for large meth bust

On Thursday, March 18, 2021, Officer Colby Werner with the Tazewell Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a blue GMC truck for speeding on U.S Hwy. 25E. Upon contact with the occupants the officer made contact with Emilio Jesus Hernandez - Balsa of Harlan, Ky. and passenger John N. Adams of Evarts, Ky.


Hernandez-Balsa, who was operating the vehicle, was unable to identify himself and after several records checks Officer Werner could locate no definitive identification. After consent to search the vehicle was granted, the officer located approximately 14.8 ounces or (0.92) of a pound of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine, along with other paraphernalia.


Both men were arrested and lodged in the Claiborne County Jail.


Emilio J. Hernandez-Balsa was charged with Possession of methamphetamine, Schedule II Drugs, Possession of Unlawful drug paraphernalia, No Drivers License, and Speeding.


John N. Adams was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Schedule II Drugs.


Both men are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
