Two injured in Claiborne County off road vehicle accident

From the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency -

TWRA wildlife officers are investigating an accident that injured two occupants of an off-highway vehicle that crashed on the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area over Easter weekend.

The accident occurred on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at approximately 6:48 p.m. on Tackett Creek Rd. when a Polaris RZR side-by-side being operated by Hayden Morgan, 20, of Oak Ridge lost control and flipped multiple times ejecting both Morgan and his passenger, Zachary Smith, 21, of Powell.

Other members of the riding group rendered aid to both occupants while awaiting the Campbell County EMS and Campbell County Sheriff's Department who arrived on the scene first. EMS transported Mr. Smith to UT Medical Center and Mr. Morgan refused treatment at the scene.

A preliminary investigation by TWRA Sgt. Dustin Burke and Officer Rick Roberts shows that after the initial start of the accident, the vehicle traveled approximately 85-90 ft. before coming to rest in the opposite direction.

Speed and alcohol may be contributing factors and the accident remains under investigation.
