On Wednesday November 27, 2019 Claiborne County Sheriff's Office Patrol Deputies and Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to what was initially received by Claiborne County E911 as a traffic crash on State Highway 63 near the intersection of Ausmus Lane.

Upon receiving additional information, responding units were advised that a person inside the vehicle involved in the crash had suffered a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, detectives conducted their investigation and found that 40 year old Charles R. Bussell of Pineville (not Middlesboro as we originally reported) Kentucky had been operating the vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 63 when he was shot and killed by 24 year old Jacob Cory McGeorge also of Pineville.

McGeorge was a passenger in the vehicle Bussell was operating. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a tree as a result of the driver being shot.

Jacob Cory McGeorge has been arrested and lodged in the Claiborne County Jail by Sheriff's Office Detectives charged with criminal homicide.

The whereabouts of the female passenger we reported on in a previous story was not addressed in the release.
